Let’s Talk About Funko Makeup
I had to take a moment to really let this announcement sink in. My husband knows my love of Funko, and my newfound love of makeup. I didn’t wear much makeup when I was younger, but now that I am older, and YouTube is a thing, I decided I would learn how to apply makeup from YouTube tutorials. Instead of doing it in the privacy of my home, I decided to do it live on Facebook (It didn’t go well). Here is the proof. If you make it through the entire 30 minutes of that video I commend you!
Specialty makeup lines are not a new thing, Disney has been doing it forever so it’s not all that strange that Funko has decided to jump on to that bandwagon. Remember Funko is a company that focuses on Pop Culture, and right now with the popularity of Beauty YouTubers or BeauTubers, It definitely falls into the pop culture theme. Funko has joined forces with Disney and Ulta to release their new Makeup line. According to Funko, it is based on four classic Disney villains: Maleficent, Ursula, Cruella De Vil and the Evil Queen from “Snow White.” The collection will include a variety of lip gloss, eyeliner, blush, bronzer, highlighter, eye shadow and makeup brushes and is due to hit the market on September 15th and will be exclusive to Ulta stores and online. Upon the announcement, Funko shares fell .5% to $22.22 which is still trending much higher than the original purchase price of $12. According to the September Ulta catalog, the price point for the makeup appears to be $24 dollars for the eye and face palettes, $10 for the lip gloss, $10 for the eyeliner and $24 for the cosmetic brush and bag set.
Though we have gotten a look at the palettes, lip-gloss and eyeliner, we have not seen the cosmetic brush and bag set, but I can only imagine the bag will be similar to those we see with Funko’s sister company Loungefly. We do know that the makeup is not tested on animals and is gluten free which is a huge plus for many cosmetic buyers. If you watched the episode of Mad Money that featured Funko CEO Brian Mariotti, you learn a lot about the company and it explains why Mariotti focuses on products that would appeal to folks in the 20-40 year old age range. From household items to makeup, I think it is safe to say, that Funko will throw anything at the wall to see if it sticks. This mentality sometimes has me feeling like Mariotti has a Willy Wonka complex, but with company continuing to grow and continuing to project profit, maybe Willy Wonka is the way to go.
One thing I can say with absolute certainty is that I will definitely be doing a live stream of me using this makeup, so be prepared!
